Learn 12 food and kitchen words for a conversation around the Cuban table.
Cuban kitchen words in everyday conversation
Kitchen vocabulary becomes useful when you can follow what someone is doing, not just name the objects on a table. In a Cuban home, a conversation about food might move from preparing coffee to checking what is ready, offering a plate or asking where something belongs.
Start with the relationship between an object and an action: a cup is something you bring, fill, wash or put away. Listen for the small words around the noun, too. They help you distinguish a request from a question and understand who is being asked to help.
For example, ¿Dónde está la taza? means Where is the cup? The sentence is ordinary Spanish; a Cuban speaker brings their own voice, rhythm and setting to it. Learn the meaning first, then notice how the question sounds in real conversation.
This page introduces the setting. The academy activity provides practice with your own learner profile. For more public examples of how meaning changes with context, explore our Cuban phrases and slang guides.
