The sound of Cuba
Discover 12 words for Cuban instruments, rhythms and musical conversations.
Use Cuban music as a listening context
Music gives you more than new words. It gives you voices, repeated lines, changes of pace and a reason to listen again. When you explore Cuban music, notice how a performer’s delivery differs from a spoken conversation without treating every lyric as everyday speech.
Begin by separating what you hear from what you understand. You might recognise the subject of a song before you can follow each line. A repeated phrase can help you hear where words begin and end, especially when the singer stretches a vowel or compresses several sounds.
Keep the musical setting in view. Talking about a song, an instrument or a performance is different from quoting a lyric. If you want to reuse an expression, check its meaning and tone in a normal conversation first.
The member flashcard activity supports vocabulary practice with your own profile. Our public Cuban music player and radio pages offer listening routes alongside it. Discover voices you want to return to, then connect what you hear with the phrase and culture guides.
