Why is every building deteriorating in Cuba?

A huge part of Havana’s infrastructure has been allowed to deteriorate for decades. The government controls the entirety of the economy and owns most of the country’s infrastructure, but maintenance and investment have consistently been inadequate. Buildings that were once beautiful have been left without proper repairs for years, while limited resources are directed elsewhere. Add decades of shortages, lack of construction materials, and economic mismanagement, and you end up with entire neighborhoods where buildings are literally falling apart. The tropical climate makes the problem worse, but it’s not the reason Havana looks the way it does, the real issue is decades of neglect and lack of investment.

That happens when you get a dictatorship that'd rather pocket the money of the people for themselves instead of... I don't know, dying or something.
