In Cuba several generations live in the same house

Because of the housing shortage and the difficulty of getting a place of your own, it’s common for several generations of a Cuban family to live under the same roof. Grandparents, parents, children, and sometimes other relatives may share the same house, often for decades.

This can mean several people sharing one or two bedrooms, with very little privacy. When a young couple gets married or has children, moving out isn't always an option, so they may simply add another generation to the same home.

Families often divide rooms, build makeshift extensions, or adapt spaces however they can to accommodate everyone. Which means overcrowding, constant lack of privacy, and a lot of tension.

For many Cubans, living independently isn't simply a matter of preference or saving enough money, it simply isn't realistically possible earning less than 20 dollars a month for a full time job.
